A few months before Lily arrived Joshua and I got a little adventurous and combined our office rooms. Up until that point, our offices were separate, and that’s when I last did a tour of this room on the blog.
After creating the nursery we lost a guest room. We tried moving the daybed downstairs, but we weren’t satisfied with its placement. The solution? Joshua moved into my office and his old office became the new guest room.
Our shared desk space consists of three IKEA ALEX drawer units and two GERTON tabletops. Along the back, we have two large cord organizers that keep our cords clean and out of reach from little hands. We also have ambiance lighting along the back of the desks and bookshelf in the form of Philips Hue Light Strips.
On the right is Joshua’s side where he has a set of shelves to display all his Star Trek memorabilia. Joshy Jr. AKA the Build-A-Bear I made to ask Joshua to Sadies our senior year hangs out there too.
We also have our sleeper sofa which allows this room to be a second guest room. Most of the time it’s where Izzie and/or Mr. Big hang out, which is why I invested in the PupProtector throw blanket.
Joshua’s desk setup is primarily for gaming. He built his own computer inside a fancy Lian Li case with so many specs that it requires its own blog post. My iPad Pro sits between our two setups where we’re using it as a baby monitor via the Nanit app when I’m not using it for work.
The left side of our office is my side home to my workspace and baby’s play area.
My personal setup has evolved quite a bit to be more ergonomic for my needs. I recently upgraded my primary mouse to the Razer Pro Click designed for the WFH life. Paired with the Carpio Ergonomic Wrist Rest my right hand is a lot happier. I also use a trackpad to give my right hand a break when I’m scrolling.
My EXPEDIT shelf is where I store Lily’s toys. In my previous blog post, I go into more detail on how we made this room baby-friendly.
Now our shared home office is one of our most-used rooms in the entire house. I work from home while watching Lily, so our shared office room accommodates all three of us.
