After moving Lily into her big girl room, our next project was getting the nursery ready for Baby Boy Paul. For the most part, everything was ready to go, but we knew we wanted to take the opportunity to give the closet a makeover.
Here’s what it looked like before:
With Lily, I found it difficult to come up with an organized system based on how the closet was laid out. Nothing was adjustable, the rods never quite stayed in, and with the spacing, you could tell it was (sort of) made for kids, not something that could grow or be used as a closet for adult clothes.
By the time I moved Lily out of this room, the closet was just packed with random baby/maternity stuff, so I was very much looking forward to tearing everything out and working with a clean slate. Just like with Lily’s closet, we went with the Elfa System from The Container Store because it’s adjustable and future-proof.
When looking for inspiration I stumbled upon Katelyn’s nursery closet and knew that was EXACTLY how I wanted mine to look. I popped my measurements into Container Store’s closet designer and basically came up with the same plan only mirrored.
Here’s the new closet fully stocked and ready to go for Baby Paul!
All of Paul’s newborn and 0-3 month items are stored in the dresser in our bedroom since that is where he will be sleeping for the first few months. Everything else 3+ months is stored in this closet.
I used my label maker to label all the drawers making it easy for people like Joshua, my sister, and my mom to see where everything is. 😉 One thing I’ve learned organizing and creating systems is that labeling things definitely helps others work with the system as opposed to expecting everyone to ready my mind. 🤪
Like many people in 2020, I got hooked on Get Organized with The Home Edit, so naturally, their products made their way into my closet. I used the All-Purpose Deep Bin with Dividers with some Tall Divider Bins and a few Bath Labels.
I love that everything has a home now, especially since some of these products are currently being used for Lily. Having it all organized in clear bins lets me see everything I have so I know when I need to replenish things.
What a relief to get this closet done! I had been storing things for Paul in our bedroom, and now I’m able to have a dedicated area for it all. Plus it helps me feel more prepared being able to see everything. We’re ready for our baby!
