Family Vacation at Convict Lake

Joshua and I just got back from a wonderful family vacation at Convict Lake, nestled east of Yosemite. Not only was it spent with Joshua’s immediate family but his grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles were all there as well. This was so we could celebrate his grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary.

Our vacation started Thursday, July 9. Joshua and I spent the night at his parents house so we could get an early start that Thursday morning. Because we’re coming from Placerville we had to take highway 50 up to South Lake Tahoe and then get on highway 89. During the highway 89 drive I was able to snap some breathtaking shots of the Sierra Nevada Mountains covered in snow. Amazing for July!

We stopped a couple hours into the trip we stopped for brunch at this adorable country diner where we had the most delicious breakfast food that one can only hope to find in the middle of nowhere!

After food we drove some more eventually getting onto highway 395 and heading towards Bodie to visit the Ghost Town.

The ghost town was very eerie, and the one thing I found fascinating about it was the amount of stuff people left behind. I could understand certain things being left if it was a case of a natural disaster, but because it was lack of business I just didn’t get it. Still, it was cool to see certain vintage-type items. In the old general store we came across a tin of old Trojan condoms! 😆

Around 3:30pm we checked in at Convict Lake resort and met up with the rest of the family. While the men took the vans/truck downt to the lake to unload the kayaks, us girls checked out the cabin. We stayed at the Mt. Morrison house which houses up to 34 people. We had everything we could possibly need there except for Wi-Fi (which we have to walk down to the store/restaurant to use) and cell signal (it’s 2 miles down the road).

One thing that was really nice about this cabin was the giant hot tub!

Throughout the week, we’ve been able to just relax and do whatever we wanted. People went fishing, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, and all kinds of other activities. It truly was gorgeous, and the weather was perfect!

Joshua and I took the opportunity to check out some 4-wheeling trails and the views were simply stunning!

We were introduced to one of the best soft serve ice cream places I’ve ever been to: Mono Cone!

And on our very last night we got to celebrate Joshua’s grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary!

We had such a blast! It was so much fun to spend a week with the entire family in such a beautiful place!
