I can’t believe we’ve been in our house for one whole year. It seriously FLEW by! Ever since this house came into our lives everything has been a whirlwind, from closing in 13 days to all the projects we’ve accomplished.
Recently I put together a floor plan based on a printed version we found in one of the kitchen cabinets. The printed version was the inverse of our house as there are several variations scattered throughout our neighborhood. I scanned the paper into Sketch, flipped it horizontally and designed over it.
I’ve come to call our house the Mediterranean Modern since the style is considered Mediterranean but I’m pairing it with modern touches, inspired by some of the homes I saw in Palm Springs.
We’ve done so much and there’s still plenty more to do. The guest room/nursery is in progress, and we’ll be getting started on replacing the cabinets and countertops in the laundry room next!
Here’s a look at what it was like when we bought it to what it looks like presently.
Two changes have happened since we moved in: we painted the front door (St. Lucia Teal by Benjamin Moore) and the tree by the front door has been removed. Other than that not much has changed. Eventually, we plan to update the light fixtures and do a little more Palm Springs inspired landscaping.
I got a bench from West Elm and put up a Stendig Wall Calendar. I have an Eames Hang-it-All that I have yet to put up because I’m still trying to figure out the flow of this space. Definitely on the list of projects for 2019.
One year later we still haven’t decided what we’re going to do with this room yet. It was briefly used for our Christmas tree back in December, and since then it has been used for storage. Currently, it’s holding our cabinets for the laundry room and a few other random furniture pieces, but you don’t need to see that hot mess. 🙈
The dining room was one of those rooms that easily came together, so the only major change was that I got all new chairs. I do intend to add a little more artwork to the walls but beyond that, this room is done!
Oh our beautiful kitchen! If it’s one thing I am glad we got done this year it’s this because our kitchen is probably the most major project in the whole house. It was a stressful project but soooo worth it in the end!
The plans for this room keep changing. At the beginning of the year, we wanted to do this entire wall in shiplap, put in a new fireplace and a few floating shelves plus some additional seating/storage. Now we’re rethinking that because of cost. Ultimately I think what we’ll end up doing is filling in the built-in above the fireplace, mount the TV, and put up some art/shelves to the right of the fireplace. It’s on the 2019 project list.
Big plans are in store for this room! Once I’m done with the guest bedroom, we’ll start on the laundry room. We already have the cabinets, so it’s just a matter of pulling out the old and putting in the new.
All the fixtures were replaced, and I added in my favorite bathroom art, “Chacun son tour (Wait your turn)” by Boris O’Klein. Not sure if we’ll end up painting the cabinet and replacing the countertop down the road, but it’s a possibility.
All we have left in this room is to put up some artwork on the walls. Other than that, this room is done!
Oh how I can’t wait till we change out the countertops and swap out the dark fixtures to make things brighter and airy in the space. A heated towel rack is on its way (it should be here today) which means we’ll no longer have to hang all our towels over the edge of the shower door.
We changed out the light fixture and faucets and added in some towel racks. Plans for 2019 include updating the shower fixtures and giving this room a little TLC.
You’ll have to wait until next Thursday to see the full reveal. 😎 Until then here’s the room in its most current state.
Joshua’s little game room is still a work in progress but he’s definitely made it his own. We’re hoping to squeeze a nice leather chair in here down the road.
Like the bedroom, this room is pretty much done with the exception of hanging up some artwork. It’s coming!
Since we moved in we added a pool fence, did some landscaping around the side of the bbq, and added in patio furniture. Eventually we’ll swap out the patio lights and make this space more our own.
