Well, we did a thing. We bought a new house! After the heartbreak and devastation we experienced this year, something really good finally happened. We’re moving into our dream home!
Funny story about this house. Originally we were interested in another one that looked exactly like this. It was 100% move-in ready and the only thing that would have made it a perfect 10/10 is if it had a pool and spa. When our agent called to let the listing agent know we were interested in putting in an offer, we were sad to discover the house was already pending (they didn’t update the status 😠). We told them to keep us posted if anything changed.
Meanwhile, we were super bummed. We kept thinking about how much we loved the floor-plan, the area, the decor, etc.. Everything about that house was perfect. We continued looking at other houses but nothing else compared, especially for the price.
A week later our hopes got up as we heard there was trouble between the buyer and seller. The buyers came back with a nit-picky list of items they wanted the seller to fix, and the seller was insulted. We were encouraged to put in a back-up offer, which we did, since it looked like the deal might fall through. Just when the seller was going to serve them a notice to perform, the buyers lifted their contingencies and the deal was done. We lost the house for good.
One week after the house closed, ours popped up on the market. While the price was much higher and the interior was the complete opposite style-wise than the previous one, it did have a phenomenal backyard! Luckily everything inside would mostly be a matter of simply repainting and replacing fixtures. I told Joshua if we got this house it would make great before/after photos. 😄
A few days later we toured 6 other houses, saving ours for last, just to see what was out there and to make sure we weren’t jumping the gun on the one we knew we wanted. Looking at the other houses definitely confirmed that the one we wanted was the right one for us.
We put together an offer later that evening and waited. Our offer was set to expire the following day at 6pm; we heard from our realtor at 3:30pm they accepted our offer ($10k below asking, too). We both cried when we got the news.
We’re due to close on Halloween (2 weeks!!! 👀), so we’re moving fast with everything. Today is our inspection, so I will have more photos to share soon. Once we get the keys we’ll start on our projects, and hopefully we will be moved in by the end of the year. We’re also hoping to get our current house on the market within the next month or two.
These are the official MLS photos, hence the quality is a little meh. I’ll have more photos after today and will be able to show you some of the things that weren’t originally photographed like the 1/2 bath, laundry, and garage.
