Week in Review | 10.18.2015

Life

I’d say the most exciting thing that happened this week was that I got my tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Around 5:30pm on Monday everyone’s phones in the office went off alerting them that tickets were officially on sale. We all made a mad dash to purchase our tickets but apparently the rest of the world was doing the same which meant all the major sites to purchase movie tickets from had crashed. Yup, Star Wars broke the internet.

I don’t know if it was because we broke the internet or that those particular theaters hadn’t rolled out tickets yet, but none of the theaters near me were selling tickets. Luckily by the time I got home from work and wrapped up my evening, tickets finally popped up at the theater closest to my house. I wasted no time and snagged our tickets. I had to use the Fandango app in order to get them.

YAY! Luckily the theater we’re going to is in the same shopping center where Joshua’s work is, so as soon as he is off of work he is heading straight to the theater to get in line. I’m so excited!

Work

The designs I did for TEAMride last week went into build this week, so that was exciting to see. I got to start on a brand new project for NAB this week, so I spent majority of my time working on wireframes.

Oh and my company won an award for being one of Sacramento’s Best Places to Work.

Yeah, I’m proud. 😊

Blog

I decided to change my commenting system from the core WordPress comments to Disqus. I’m hoping this will encourage readers to comment more. Now when you go to comment on my posts you’ll see the following:

You can either sign up for a Disqus account or use your social media credentials to login. I know that taking that extra step can be a pain, but once you’ve logged in you don’t have type in your name, email, etc. every single time you want to leave a comment; I’m hoping this will make things easier in the long run.

There are two ways to leave comment on my posts.

1. You can click on the number bubble to the left of the post title. The number will tell you how many comments there are.

2. You can click on “Leave a Comment” at the end of the post

I’m curious to see how this works, and if all goes well, I’ll integrate it into my upcoming Lovely Geek site.

I created a “Regular Segments” widget in the sidebar that links to the categories of some of the common posts I do, such as my Week in Review.
